History
David A. Wagner, PhD and Martin A. Baker, MBA founded Metabolic Solutions in 1990 to provide the research community with access to the expertise and mass spectrometry measurements needed to use stable isotope tracers. Our services have helped more than 1,000 pharmaceutical, biotechnology, government and academic researchers to use stable isotopes to answer their questions about metabolism, nutrition and the presence of disease.
Innovation
Metabolic Solutions has been an industry leader in developing new stable isotope tracer applications. Our company has received extensive support from the National Institutes of Health Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant program to develop new uses for stable isotopes. The innovations that have resulted from this research include:

Meeting Researchers Needs
Serving the pharmaceutical industry has been a mainstay of our business. Through the years Metabolic Solutions has participated in many clinical studies in which our work has been included as part of regulatory submissions. We recognize, and have designed our services, to meet the unique needs of pharmaceutical researchers to conduct their research following the guidance outlined by the Food and Drug Administration. To this end, we have developed many validated stable isotope assays. Our infrastructure complies with FDA guidelines for sample analysis and kit building.
Expanding into an Independent Clinical Laboratory
Being experts in stable isotopes with an emphasis on breath testing has allowed our company to expand into offering clinical laboratory services to healthcare professionals. Since 2001 Metabolic Solutions has provided specialized clinical laboratory services to physicians nationwide. Our laboratory now helps over 1000 physicians use the Urea Breath Test and Hydrogen Breath Tests to diagnosis H. pylori, lactose intolerance, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and fructose malabsorption (go to www.metsol.com for more details).
